Dr Canepari visits FBUB
Dr Marco Canepari, our external collaborator on the PRIZMA NIMOCHIP project, visited the Faculty of Biology University of Belgrade (FBUB) from 2nd to 5th of April 2025. Dr. Canepari is a permanent scientist at the University Grenoble Alpes in France and head of the Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Physics since 2010. He is an expert in the technique of membrane potential imaging.
This was the first academic exchange within the NIMOCHIP project coordinated by Prof. Pavle Andjus. In the extrordinary conditions of student blockade Dr Canepari’s gave a lecture kindly hosted at the Institute for Multidisciplinary Research entitled “Optical analysis of neuronal ionic currents in brain slices and the study of the action potential in the axon initial segment“. On the second day, he visited the Center for Laser Microscopy (CLM) at FBUB and the Laboratory for neurophysiology at the Institute for Biological Research “Sinisa Stankovic” (IBISS). During his visit at the CLM, the NIMOCHIP staff, Darko Lović, Ana Jakovljević and Andrej Korenić acquainted him with the Visitron live imaging system used for calcium imaging and redox imaging, as well as with the newly purchased multielectrode array (MEA) system and with the workshop setup for the production of microfluidic lab-on-a-chip devices. Ljiljana Nikolic at IBISS showed him a system used for electrophysiological and optical measurements in brain slices. During both visits Dr Canepari gave valuable advice for improvement of existing imaging systems.
